Most store-bought breakfast cereals are highly processed and contain copious amounts of sugar. Many also contain unhealthy food colourings and genetically modified ingredients (GMO’s) that can wreak havoc on your health and digestion. By making homemade breakfast cereals you can avoid all of the extra sugar and processing, and instead pack a nutritional punch! Taking some extra time each week to prepare a large batch of homemade muesli will make an enormous difference in your health. Get started below with this incredibly easy to make and delicious recipe!
Enjoy!

Servings: 30 servings (15 cups of muesli)
- Muesli Ingredients:
- 5 cups old fashioned rolled oats (certified gluten free/organic)
- 1 cup shredded, unsweetened coconut
- 1 ½ cups chopped pecans
- 1 ½ cups chopped walnuts
- 1 cup chopped almonds
- ¾ cup chopped hazelnuts
- ¾ cup sunflower seeds
- ¾ cup pumpkin seeds
- ¾ cup avocado oil or melted coconut oil
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- To be added after baking:
- 1 cup freshly ground flax seeds (can use coffee grinder, food processor, etc..)
- 1 cup hemp hearts (hemp seeds)
- 2-3 tsp cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Combine all ingredients other than the ground flax seeds, cinnamon and hemp hearts into a large mixing bowl. Stir to combine.
- Distribute the mixture into 2 baking dishes or pans. Note that the muesli may brown faster if using metallic/aluminum cookware versus glass or ceramic. Cooking times differ depending on the pan (see #4).
- Bake at 350° for 16-18 minutes with glass or ceramic cookware, and 13-15minutes for aluminum pans. The muesli should be only slightly browned and lightly toasted to preserve the natural, healthy oils in the nuts and seeds.
- Let the muesli cool, and then add the ground flax seeds, cinnamon and hemp hearts. Ground flax can go rancid quickly, and should be purchased as the whole seed and ground immediately prior to use.
- Store in an airtight container. Keeping the muesli in the fridge will help to preserve the quality of the oils from the nuts and seeds.
- Serve with your favourite nut milk, and add fruit (optional). My favourite way to enjoy this muesli is to top it with blueberries or diced apple with extra cinnamon.
